They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42-47
Our Sunday meeting provides us the opportunity to worship and learn together as a big family in Christ. However, meeting in Small Groups has been the norm since the very beginning of the Church:
“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.” —Acts 2:42-47
Small Groups, in all their iterations, are not just a good idea. They are essential to the operation of the Church and the godly life of the believer. The New testament Church met daily (Acts 2:46 & Acts 5:42) and yet it was to such a diligent Church that the writer of the Hebrews said:
“…and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together…”
—Hebrews 10:24-26
All the more so then in today’s busy times we need to make time for the “assembling together”, as our communities grow ever bigger and ever more impersonal. Let’s all make a concerted effort to meet at least twice a week.
Here is why you should join a small group:
